Code of Conduct/2024-09-12 draft rules

Up to: Code of Conduct

Grifts

Current rule

No promotion of NFTs

Proposed rule

No promotion of harmful, exploitative, or anti-human grifts

NFTs, cryptocurrencies, TESCREAL dystopias, brain/body preservation and immortality scams, snake-oil supplements, etc. Particularly when the position of scientific/academic authority is abused for personal or professional gain at the expense of marginalized groups. Discussion or criticism without promotion is allowed.

Conspiracies

I think this is slightly different than the grifts rule, because this is usually people who *believe* stuff rather than people who are actively running a scam. In any case i feel like trying to push them into one rule would sorta overcomplicate things.

Current rule

No anti-vaxxers. No climate change deniers. No Flat Earthers.

Proposed rule

No promotion of harmful or exploitative conspiracy theories

Anti-vax, climate change denial, flat earth, qanon, etc. Promotion of controversial ideas, including and especially critiques of mainstream western science or medicine is allowed provided they do not have an intrinsic or demonstrated pattern of harm or exploitation. Discussion without promotion is allowed.

Content warnings

Current rule

there is no current rule for cw's, but there are rules for nonconsensual or illegal sexual material in the code of conduct.

Proposed rule

Posts that include graphic violence, gore, or sexuality must have a content warning and be marked as sensitive

Glorification of violence, particularly that committed by a more powerful group against a marginalized group, eg. state, systematic, police, or military violence is not allowed. This rule should not be interpreted as requiring members of oppressed or marginalized groups to self-censor when describing that oppression. Discussion of graphic violence and consensual sexual material that is legal within the US are allowed with content warning. Including common hashtags or keywords used for filtering like "#lewd" is encouraged

Syncing CoC with server rules

The current Code of Conduct is close but not exactly the same as the Server Rules,
